Daucus Carota, Carrot

The carrot (Daucus carota) is a root vegetable, native to Europe and Southwestern Asia. Carrots were first grown for their aromatic leaves and seeds rather than their roots, and traces of carrot seeds have been found in Southern Germany dating back to 2000–3000 BC.
The characteristic orange color is from beta-carotene, making carrots a rich source of vitamin A. Other variants including purple, black, red, white, and yellow are domesticated forms of the wild carrot.
